Built on the remains of ancient Roman settlements, for centuries the castle was the home of the lords of the Friulian nobility.
From the 16th century, illustrious families took turns in his property: first the Dorimbergo, then the Rassauer and then, for more than 300 years, the powerful Della Torre Valsassina family, descendants of Charlemagne.
Count Luigi Torriani hosted Giacomo Casanova in 1773, who -fleeing from Venice to avoid a prison sentence- found refuge and tranquility to write and appreciate the wines, which he defined excellent in his Memoirs.
